Private Element Chat

This server uses a registration token. You need the token before you can create an account.

Join

1. Install Element on your device.

   • Desktop: https://element.io/download
   • Android: install Element from the Play Store or F-Droid.
   • iPhone / iPad: install Element from the App Store. Element X is the newest app.
   • WebApp: https://app.element.io/

2. Open Element.

3. Choose Create account

4. Select Edit next to the server choice.

5. Choose Other homeserver, Custom server, or Use custom server.

6. Enter this homeserver:

   chat.frii.day
   

7. Continue registration.

8. Pick a username and password.

9. Enter the registration token when prompted.

10. Finish account creation and sign in.

After Signing In

• Set up secure message backup if Element prompts for it.
• Save your recovery key somewhere safe.
• Do not share the registration token publicly. We don't want Bots creating accounts.
• Ask for an invite to the rooms you need after your account is created.

Server Rules

• Use common sense, there are real humans on the other end of these chat rooms.
• If you want to invite a friend just contact a server admin to enable registration.

Known Limitations

• Screen Sharing Known Limitations
  • Video works everywhere
  • Audio only works if both clients are in the Chrome browser and specifically selected to stream a Chrome Tab
    • Did manage to get system audio working from Chrome client after selecting Entire Screen and toggling the *Also share system audio toggle button. However, could not reproduce on a another windows machine.

Troubleshooting

• If registration fails, confirm the token was entered exactly as given.
• If Element tries to use matrix.org, go back and choose the custom server option.
• If the app cannot find the server, make sure the homeserver is exactly https://chat.frii.day.
• If you already created an account, use Sign in instead of creating another one.
